Table Tennis provocations and analogies

Many powerful and transformational ideas appear in the table tennis world, become a trend and then disappear. This is sometimes because most coaches never fully understand it in the first place.

The most recent example of this is “provocation”.
Almost all coaches use the word and they believe they planned it for their students. Unfortunately, very often, these so-called provocations turn into missed opportunities, time-wasting activities that really don't change the next plan in the least. Of course, the provocation in this case is positive.

The motivational whiplash from the coach to the players is a form of provocation. It's just how the coach packs the provocation so that the player is affected and becomes motivated to follow all the coach's directions.

Using the Ping Pong analogy, when we provoke our opponent, we hit the ball at them, then they hit it back at us in all directions. Now it's up to us to figure out what to do with the ball and how to hit it back to the opponent, and so on…
If we can view such provocation as an ongoing exchange of stimulus and response, ideas and actions, thoughts and questions, we will begin to understand how to use these concepts in our play. We can also free ourselves from thinking that a provocation must be a grand extravaganza to be planned.

What we often see, provocations are often carried out by players in a way that lacks fair play. With the hope that opposing players are provoked by our provocation so that their concentration in playing is disturbed and makes them frustrated.

It is enough to bring out all the technical abilities we have, if done with just a few mistakes it will make the opponent's mental falter. Filled empty chops, geol balls or curved spins and so on can provoke opponents.

In sports including table tennis, sportsmanship must be upheld, because the true victory is maintaining good friendships after the game ends.
