Tips for Playing Doubles for Table Tennis (part 2)

Tips for Playing Doubles Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living Double Serve Return Tips and Tactics Playing doubles is how we can be good servants for our partners, and vice versa. We all know that service return is often the key to a winning doubles combination. Because the number of feints decreases when serving, a good receiver can often dominate the point, stopping his opponent from attacking and setting up his own partner's attack. On receiving, we can treat it like returning serve in singles, with some combinations where we have to try to force play to the type of play our partner likes. If you're playing with a good forehand loop that can attack from topspin or backspin, then using mostly cross/diagonal returns will tend to cross your opponent's line of play towards your partner's strong forehand. Likewise, if your partner is a strong blocker, then you should try to use flicks and loop returns more often than short chops. If your partner is a little slow on their feet, avoid too many wide angles, which will put their footwork under pressure, and focus more on your returns toward the center of the table. Experienced doubles players will know where our partners will be at any given point in time, so we don't bump into each other. Notice where your partner prefers to play from, and over time you will learn to automatically move out of the area your partner prefers to hit the ball. Compactness is key in doubles play. Tips for Playing Doubles Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Most articles written on table tennis tactics and strategy tend to focus on the singles side of competition, while doubles games tend to come second.

Most table tennis players enjoy a good game of doubles occasionally. Playing and winning in doubles competition is just as rewarding and enjoyable as singles play.
There are several important differences between the tactics used for doubles play as compared to singles play. Then how to become a dynamic duo?

We often see doubles teams with lesser single player material fighting and defeating stronger two player single player combinations. Why is that?
"The champion team will beat the champion team". This proverb is very appropriate to express it.
"Two weaker players who know each other's game and play to support each other can be a tougher team to beat than two strong players who don't work well together".

Double Serve Tips and Tactics
In doubles, we have to serve diagonally to the opponent's table, from the right half of our court to the right of the opponent's field. Most of the serves you make in doubles should be serves with the ball bouncing low over the net and difficult for your opponent to attack. When serving, it's important to remember that your partner will make the third stroke. To increase your partner's chances of making a good third ball attack, you should try to use serves that will help set up the best attack by your partner. We try to be servants for our partners, and vice versa.

Cue in doubles.
Cues can also be used when serving to allow your partner to know what serve you are about to use, which will make executing the third ball easier.
If our level and our partner's are quite similar, it is enough for us to signal with a finger that is mutually agreed upon. Unless our partner has a special plan, in which case it's the partner who will be the one beckoning us.

HEAVY/LIGHT TABLE TENNIS BET/BLADE, WHICH IS BETTER?

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

In the sport of table tennis, the bat/bet is the most important equipment and is much talked about by the players. Determining the set up bet is mandatory so that it can support the performance of our game.
Would betting on heavier weights be better than on light ones?

The betting table tennis table varies in weight with light, medium and heavy categories. The choice of bet weight for players must be adjusted to the designation and comfort of the wearer.

Light bet
The advantage of light bets is that it is easier for players to swing and maneuver near the table and makes it easier for us to counterattack.
Behind the advantages of using light bets, of course, there are drawbacks, namely, there will be a lack of energy if we play away from the table.

Medium bet
This category is the most sold on the market, and is most widely used by beginners to advanced players.

Heavy bet
The advantage of betting on weight is that it has better rebound power. For hard hitting, this bet category has good control, because it will vibrate more giving more feeling.
Apart from these reasons, betting on weight is also very good for attacking or counter-attacking strokes, and this is very important in modern table tennis.
If we play away from the table, betting with weight categories is very suitable.

Adjust the type of our game with the choice of bet weight that we will use. Light, medium or heavy bets are choices, in the end it is still playing ability that we must always improve.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE WHEN SMITHING A TABLE TENNIS BALL

PERCAYA DIRI pemain TENIS MEJA
By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis besides requiring good skills and stamina, the confidence of the players is also very important. How come? Hesitation in hitting the ball will result in a greater possibility of losing points.

If we hit the ball hard, we will always score points, because it will be difficult for the opponent to anticipate. Are such players' thoughts always right? Certainly not.

A table tennis player must believe in himself for his abilities, even though he is hitting the ball slowly though.
Hits that are hard and wrong in relation to the development of the game are sometimes the result of a lack of confidence in doing so.

We need to adjust the severity of the blow depending on how the game develops.
Look at the situation and position your opponent is in, and adjust the power/speed and/or spin of the ball.

Sometimes with the right weak block in its placement it will result in points. Build our confidence in hitting the ball during the game.

The secret to improving the skills of table tennis players

Rahasia meningkatkan skill pemain Tenis Meja

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

The spirit of practice can help players achieve self-improvement, this applies to every player, both grassroots and professional class.

Every player dreams of maximizing their own playing abilities and becoming a great player, but for many players reality may get in the way.

Probably over 90 percent of players feel like a failure, and about 20 percent don't make it past their first year of training. Against this backdrop, what can players do to increase their chances of success? Also, is the passion for the game ingrained in our DNA, and can everyone be a great player?

Relax, pursuing table tennis for most hobbyist players is not absolute for achievement. Health and recreation are the main goals of the hobbyist playing table tennis, but if you can excel, that's a bonus.

Table tennis player refers to the individual who creates new opportunities, assumes most of the risks, and enjoys most of the practice time simultaneously.
Some table tennis players also often tend to question the status quo because of the lack of achievements, seek growth and understanding, and embrace challenges and opportunities.

Improved players are usually associated with being passionate players who have the drive needed to start something new, but at the same time are willing to postpone their gratification until their hard work pays off.

I believe that playful nature is something that is potentially in our DNA.

Few young players dare to do small things as a form of sacrifice, but it can lead to bigger opportunities. Leaving youth to train hard is one such example.
Players like this need to maintain a reflective mindset and not get complacent.
Remaining reflective requires players to take regular time to think about what they have learned during practice, and that could positively influence their behavior when competing.

To feel dissatisfied is to have the feeling that we are not satisfied enough with ourselves. Such a player wants to constantly challenge himself. Players with this mindset tend to spend time figuring out where they want to be in the future and work on improving their skills gradually each day as part of the evaluation.

Preparation and warm-up before a table tennis match

Persiapan dan pemanasan sebelum bertanding Tenis Meja

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

All table tennis players come to the venue of course with the hope of winning luck to win the championship.
But keep in mind, the place of the match is sometimes new to players. Environmental adaptation is needed first, in order to be able to master the atmosphere of the competition venue. The area of the building and the type of floor need to be considered, apart from the table which will affect the ball's reflection.

Do a general physical warm-up before actually going down to the arena. Stroke is an introduction to the table for studying ball reflection. This is important for the stroke implementation plan that we will use during the match.

It is very important to maintain focus during the stroke, feel the quality of the ball's reflection on the table, because the difference in places and tables will affect and help emotions in thinking and building a play plan which is the key to success.

There are also players who use the first set as an adaptation event if the warm-up is felt to be lacking. But this will be risky, because adaptation like this will cause a lot of doubts in hitting the ball.

It is therefore important that our warm-up resembles a real game.
A good and proper warm-up will really help determine us to be the winner in a game.

Read the opponent's body language and position on the table tennis playing area

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis is a sport that requires high speed physically and mentally.
For this reason, we are required to train the agility of the feet in moving and flexibility of the body as a whole.

In order to be able to predict the movements that will be made by the opponent early, we must learn to develop a vision of play, read the opponent's body language and position before hitting the ball.
Thus, it is hoped that it will be easier for us to anticipate the arrival of the ball by blocking or counter attacking. Proper body position and careful identification will help us anticipate the arrival of the ball from the opponent.

The earlier we can identify, the better equipped we will be to make hits to win points.

Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2023/02/kuda-kuda-penting-dalam-bermain-tenis.html?m=1

Observation and understanding of the opponent's position regarding body movements and hand movements will provide initial information regarding the actions that the opponent will take, the spin of the ball and its speed. We just need to prepare the right shot to anticipate the ball from the opponent.

How to increase concentration in the game of Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

As table tennis players, we need to train our brains with high concentration abilities, so that we can make the right decisions in a match.

The beginning of the acquisition of important points requires a high level of concentration, and indeed most players are very concentrated at this stage.

In order to be successful from the start to the next round towards the championship ladder, players must learn to focus more on all stages of the game from the first point to the end of the match.

Things that sometimes disturb the players' minds and concentration can come from outside the match table, it can be from the shouting of the opposing fans which is annoying to our ears so that it can result in decreased concentration and defeat.

Players need to learn to ignore voices that are beyond our control and thoughts. Because if we can't control it, it will cause a decrease in concentration and mental ability to compete.

So how do you improve the concentration and mentality of players?
-Regular practice is an important part of helping to hone our concentration and mentality.
-During practice we have to maintain concentration from start to finish as a simulation during a match.
-Learning to breathe properly will combine our concentration.
-Deliberate interruptions when we practice that resemble distractions in a match will also help learning and improve concentration.
-We need to concentrate on learning to get point by point without thinking about things that interfere with the game.

Concentration is part of mental strength which significantly influences the success of our game.

Table Tennis Rules

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis players must know the rules of the game and what is allowed and what is not allowed, so they know how to play the match properly and effectively.

The Referee is appointed by the Match Instructor to judge the play and he is the one who will enforce the law and is responsible for the standards of game management from the point of view of the match rules and the behavior of the players while in the arena.

Some rules and regulations that are often violated by players and coaches, including:
When serving the ball must be placed in the palm of the hand with an open position. Players serve by bouncing the ball almost vertically as high as at least 16 cm. Players who serve are prohibited from covering/hiding the ball with their limbs, so that opposing players can see the ball when it starts to be hit by the player serving.

If the umpire is unsure of the legality of a player's serve, he may warn the player (only once during the game). And if the legality of serving again is doubtful, then the referee will annul it and give points to the opponent.

Henceforth the referee does not have to warn the same, non-compliance with clear rules against legal requirements will result in immediate disqualification by way of punishment by awarding points to the opponent.

Sportivity of Table Tennis Players and Trainers
Table tennis players must behave in a sporting and respectful manner towards the referee and opponent during the match, if they ignore it the referee can warn using a yellow card as the first warning.
If you repeat it, you will be given a red yellow card as a second warning sign, and points for the opponent.
For the third warning, the referee issues a red yellow card and gives two points to the opponent.

The coach is allowed to advise a player after the point has ended and while the ball is not in play (without causing play to be suspended), during a rally the coach is prohibited from giving any advice.

Playing attack or defense in Table Tennis?

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

In addition to physical exercise and exercise, table tennis is a sport that requires thought (intelligence of thought).
The mindset of table tennis players must be built as well as possible. We have to play to win, not how not to lose.

Players who can start the first attack / first, will benefit a lot in gaining points. If a rally occurs, try to stay consistent with fast balls. However, if during a rally we are cornered and forced to slow down, we must be prepared to be on the defensive. Make the switch from attack to defense quickly.
Slowing down the ball during a rally is not prohibited, even if slowing the ball turns out to have great playing effectiveness in it, why not? .

Ideally, as a player, you have the ability to attack and defend in balance, but always try to take the initiative to attack while playing. Even when the position leads the points, you don't need to wait for your opponent's mistakes, try to get points thanks to the strategy we play.

The part of the players who makes the first strike and doesn't let go wins the game. Not a guarantee of winning, but the probability of winning is more open.
There will always be pros and cons in arguing, but being a player with an attacking or defensive character is a choice.

How Many Sets in Table Tennis?

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

If we are new to table tennis, we must be wondering how many sets in table tennis to win a match, or how many sets to win in ping pong?

For competitions with different implementing committees, the rules and structure of the competition may also be different.
In table tennis, odd sets are always used, so that a match will not end in a draw, unlike in several other sports. In general, table tennis uses the Best of Five competition structure, although it is possible for someone to use the Best of Three or Best of Seven in certain matches.

Do we need to play all (5 sets) in a Best of Five match?
The answer is not necessary.
We only need to win most of the sets to win the game, so we don't need to play all of the sets.

As an example in the best of five matches, we will be the winner if we beat our opponent in the first 3 sets (3-0). Now there is no need to play 2 more sets to reach a total of 5 sets, because even though we lost the last 2 sets, we still have the majority of wins, namely 3 out of 5 sets.
So whoever wins 3 sets, game over. Best of Five will only produce a score of 3-0, 3-1, 3-2 or vice versa.

Results will not betray the process (Table Tennis)

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

If you want to taste honey, you have to know how the bee produces it.

Great people are not produced from ease, pleasure and comfort. They are formed through difficulties, challenges, pain and tears.

Appreciate his feelings, his pride that is struggling / fighting for in the current process to achieve the desired expectations.

Likewise in table tennis, achieving achievements certainly requires time and struggle. It's not easy to achieve, you have to go through the process of practicing diligently, going through defeats and challenges, and sacrificing time in training.
There are many obstacles and challenges, but if we focus on the initial goal, nothing is impossible to achieve.
Enjoy the process, evaluate and improve playing skills. If it is done in earnest, then there will be good results behind it.

Achievements are not to be boasted about, above the sky there is still the sky. Stay humble and don't be stingy to share knowledge. We have to learn rice science, the taller and fuller the more we bow and benefit others. Respect other players, because without them we will not get to the top of the achievement.

Take Advantage of Table Tennis Counterattacks from Ball Speed and Opponent Movement

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

All table tennis players have the goal of gaining the first strike advantage and trying to win a point as soon as possible.

If in the game our opponent has the advantage of attacking first, then we will deal with the arrival of fast, strong and "uncomfortable" balls.
So what are we going to do and how to deal with a situation like this?

Players who attack sometimes use full power in hitting the ball, this causes their body balance to focus a little on the final movement after hitting.
We can use a situation like this as a "weak point" for placing our "return ball".
We must know how to return the ball to the opponent's side not by force but by using the speed or rotation of the ball and depending on the movement and position of the opponent.

Our goal is to change the pace of play and return the ball to the opponent's table with good placement, try to provoke the opponent to make mistakes, make it difficult for the opponent to make the next attack and use our defense to counterattack.

Table tennis players need the help of many and varied tools to reach a higher level of play, so it is also important to practice and simulate the ability to return the ball from all types of opponent's attacks to produce counterattacks.

Footstools and body weight transfer in Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

All physical sports require a lot of energy to get maximum results. Table tennis, for example, players must know how to use body parts to support the required quality of strokes.

Using hand strength alone is not enough, hand muscles are not too strong to produce power and speed.
Players must know how to move/move a heavy body correctly using the muscles of the waist and hips to generate power, speed and rotation.

The use of body parts and body weight transfer will help in addition to strength and speed also determine the final direction of the ball's movement exactly where it is wanted.

To play at a higher level, players must combine their hands and other body parts to produce good quality strokes.

11 Points is a fixed price in Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

No single table tennis player has won when the points are still 8-2 or even 10-3.

A player should not feel complacent even if he leads by several points. Never give easily, let alone free points to your opponent.
In table tennis, one or two points can decide the whole game.

A player needs to start earning points and not wait for the opponent's mistake. Make moves and punches that can generate points.
We must remember that adding points will lead to victory.

Players are required to maintain concentration throughout the game. Keep applying measured pressure to your opponent, because even a little off guard can be used by your opponent to steal points from us.

Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2022/12/six-teen-centimeter.html?m=1

Before reaching eleven points, the referee has not determined the winner, so the stability of the game must be maintained. 11 points is a dead price!!

Sequence of Body Movements When You Want to Hit the Ball in Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, healthy living fan

Table tennis is a sport that requires a high level of accuracy for its players. Once we are not careful in executing the ball, the opportunity to get points will just disappear.

In order for the player to complete the desired movement in hitting the ball correctly, we need to utilize all parts of the body and use them in the correct order.

1. Eyes

The eye is the most important part for observing the direction and rotation of the ball. We have to maintain concentration in seeing the ball that comes to us.

2. Legs

After we see and observe the ball coming at us, we must move with our feet to be in the best shape and position to take the action we need.

3. Head (intelligent thinking-red)

After we land our feet correctly, we think about what action we will do (Spin, Chop etc). Then we think about where we will direct the ball and with what blow.

4. Hands and Waist

The last movement in the action of hitting the ball is the hands and waist. The hands carry out the execution of the punches and are supported by the power of the waist rotation.

If we see the direction the ball is coming from, then we will move our feet, then think about what action we will take. Then the hands and waist complete with the execution of the blow that we thought about earlier.

That's why it's so important to teach and make sure to learn the correct sequence of body movement actions, so that the body's systems (muscle memory and thinking) will teach us and allow us to reach a higher level of play.

Getting used to the right movement is building good reflexes. Practice!!

Important horses in playing table tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

The part of the body that plays the most role in a person's mobility is the feet. If this one part of the body is not functioning properly, of course, you need a tool so that the leg function can work properly. The function of the feet is interrelated with other members of the body in order to create harmonious harmony. And the part of the leg that has the heaviest task is the knee (knee).

In table tennis, for example, knees have a very significant role in the quality of our game.
How come? The knees will have the heaviest duty on the feet to support all the limbs so they can move agilely.

The player's stance is greatly influenced by knee strength. Not infrequently table tennis players and other sports use a "knee decker", an elastic material that serves as a tool to strengthen knee function.

If the position of both knees is lowered while playing table tennis, it will form a stance. The horses help the player's readiness to receive the ball and make strokes.
The quality of the strokes of players whose legs (knee) are straight, with their feet (knee) slightly lowered when playing table tennis is clearly very different in results.
Players whose knees are lowered (stance) will have better punch power and accuracy.
With a good stance, players are ready to wait for the ball or hit the ball, both attacking and defending.

Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2022/12/juang-dalam-bermain-tenis-meja.html?m=1

Continue to practice table tennis by getting used to good stances so as to produce good quality strokes, thereby giving birth to good and quality playing instincts.

The knee joint is often easily injured, therefore it must be maintained, improve footwork when playing. Healthy knees, strong horses, great game!!

Learn Table Tennis Blocks

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis is a sport that besides cultivating body/physically, it also cultivates feelings and thoughts. The difficulty of translating the ball's spin in the game forces us to be smart in reading and understanding the character of the opponent's ball.

Besides being required to be able to perform attacking techniques, players are also required to master the block technique as a defense or counterattack.
In modern table tennis, passive blocks are no longer relevant, especially for young players who are synonymous with agility and speed. It's a good idea to add a bit of force when doing the block, so that it becomes an active block.

Many players underestimate the blocking technique. This is a big mistake, because with neat and consistent blocks you will be able to control the game more. We will easily direct the ball to whichever side, and get ready to make the next attack.
To block we must absorb the force of the incoming ball, use the stomach to absorb it. During the blocking movement, bend your stomach and bend your body forward and stay close to the table. Sometimes we do it with tension, so that the mental ball goes too far.
In order for our block to be consistent, do it in a relaxed manner, that way it will be easier to control it.
Backhand blocks in front of the body will make it easier for us to control the ball.

Do strokes to practice our blocks consistently, and aim the ball in several different directions. On the other hand, your training partner will hone your attacks with his topspin and agility of his feet.

Then why the backhand block?
The most ideal position to absorb energy is in the backhand position with the bet position in front of the body. This is to anticipate if our backhand spin power is not ready, then just block.
So if the opponent's attack is towards our forhand? Yes, just counter immediately with a strong topspin shot, don't just block on the forhand side.

Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2021/07/syncronization-feeling-dan-tangan-pada.html?m=1

Position tips for simulating a backhand block are standing close to the table, bat facing the opponent, the bet position is higher than the elbow and body bend and body weight leaning forward. Simulate when we practice, and don't get bored!!

Table Tennis is an uninteresting sport (for whom?)

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Rarely do we see the spectacle of national table tennis on television screens. Sponsors reluctant to fund table tennis events? Or do national television think that table tennis is difficult to sell to bring in money? Or mismanagement from related parties? There may be a little bit of right, but there is also a wrong opinion like this.

Don't get me wrong, I already love playing table tennis and hope for the best with this sport. But there are too many reasons why it doesn't translate well into sports viewing for television or live viewing.
It takes a lot to overcome this challenge to eventually thrive in society just like badminton can become the dominant sport.
If a table tennis match or tournament is held, even if it's a fairly large event, the majority of the spectators who fill the stands are the players' club friends, the participants and the players' families who are willing to come as supporters. Even though it's free to watch, the general public who might come to watch is only a fraction of the capacity of the stands, very few. Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2023/01/terry-palmer-liga-tenis-meja-indonesia.html?m=1
Try to compare it with a badminton match, as seen at the Indonesia Masters at Istora Senayan recently, for example, the general public filled the stands. They are willing to become supporters with their own awareness, and are even willing to spend a lot of money to buy tickets to be able to watch a badminton match.

One factor that makes table tennis unattractive to the general public is (perhaps) a table tennis game finishes quickly, two strokes three strokes are already points. The general public audience doesn't know what's going on in table tennis, because they don't understand the techniques that are difficult for them to understand.

The perfect comparison is with court tennis. In a tennis court relly, it takes the ball about 1 full second to move from one player's racket to the other player's racket. With so much time between each stroke, it's easy for spectators to get into the rally and feel the drama of the game.
In table tennis the ball can go back and forth 2-3 times in the same time frame. For high-level players or people who have been watching professional table tennis for years, it might be easy to follow the action, but for ordinary spectators or the general public who happen to come to a table tennis match, it will be very difficult to enjoy what they are watching, everything happens in an instant. blink of an eye.
In court tennis, when a player wants to take a drop shot, we can see him running towards the net, and we know what he is going to do long before the stroke is made. In table tennis, the drop shot is completed in an instant. All that extra time in tennis helps create drama as we see the game unfold.
How many rounds are there in court tennis? Topspin, underspin and sometimes sidepin. In table tennis? Various combinations of topspin , underspin , sidespin , no-spin , and self-taught combinations of shots, and it is often difficult to see what spin it is. This is most prominent during gameplay. Professional players will mix all of this spin into their serve, but the untrained eye sees only a slow-moving ball, which may or may not curve sideways.
Casual viewers need to know what's really going on, and right now that's impossible. Don't get me wrong, table tennis is a “complicated game”, but for the hobbyist or player as a spectator, it's the complexity that attracts us to watch a quality match.
The common man does not know all the ins and outs of the rounds and strategies played and cannot appreciate them in depth. I apologize to all tennis players, but I say tennis is much simpler and easier to understand.

Hopefully in the future table tennis can become one of the more attractive sports for casual spectators, and will bring the number of spectators that fill the stands when table tennis matches are held. In this way, it is hoped that there will be national television stations that are interested in airing table tennis programs as a step to popularize it among the public.

You know, grassroots table tennis is very passionate compared to other sports. This is evidenced by the many tournaments every week.

Apart from being an achievement sport, table tennis is also a recreational sport, especially for hobbyists and "aged" players.
Muscle strength will greatly affect agility and physicality when playing. And for "senior players", muscle strength will decrease with age.

Senior players (aged/elderly-ed) are also safe to play table tennis, as long as they don't force themselves. Play enough according to our stamina and physical abilities, don't get tired which can lead to things we don't want. Play fun to relieve stress.

We still have to eat and exercise (light exercise) as best we can, no matter how old we are.
Even though your teeth aren't as strong as they used to be, your appetite isn't much anymore, keep eating.
Try not only to eat vegetables, at least we have to eat eggs and meat regularly, because it builds muscle.
Sunbathe and consume vitamin D, because it is very necessary to prevent bone loss and muscle weakness.

As we age, don't be a reason not to exercise, keep exercising to maintain muscle elasticity and strength. If necessary consult a doctor.
Try to "senior players" have activities to meet with peers, playing table tennis can be used as a friendly solution on sunny days. Look for friends that you can talk to and confide in together, because it is important for the brain and health.

"Senior players" need a lot of recreation. Make table tennis a recreational sport, but if you can still excel, consider it a bonus.
The benefits that we can take if table tennis is used as a means of recreation, including:
-Improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety
-Improve sleep, digestion
-Improve cognition, focus, stamina
-Increase energy, self-confidence
-Increased social support and networking
-Increases strength, endurance
-Improve long-term health, prevent disease

Sidespin In Table Tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis is a game that relies more on spin (spin of the ball) compared to other sports that use a racket as a bat. It can excite the viewer's eye as well as frustrate the opponent. Sidespin / side spin, if the spin is not resisted can cause the ball to come out and deviate from the opponent's bet at an extraordinary angle. So, how can we deal with side spins?

Side spin tends to cause the ball to curve in the air, so to deal with it, the first step is to observe the ball's speed and spin. The second step is to make sure we make good contact with the curve ball. For example, you can come back with brush strokes and control the ball's spin or tilt your bat to control the ball.

A side-spin shot is formed when the opponent's bat touches the ball in a sideways stroke, either from left to right or right to left. As a result, it is very important to understand how to interpret spins, especially side spins, in order to counter and handle shots successfully. With that in mind, let's take a closer look at reading side spins and returning side spins.

Sidespin serves are difficult to return because the spin of the ball pushes your shots wide to the right or left. Therefore, it is very important to read the sidespin direction carefully and accurately. It may seem a little complicated, but it must be learned. We often see when a player is about to receive a serve, he bends his body and looks seriously at his opponent. This is not a player's style, but it does require careful observation of the ball spin that we will receive.

The table tennis ball will bounce in the same direction as the opponent's bat. For example, the ball will bounce to the right if it moves from left to right. Vice versa, the ball will bounce to the left if it moves from right to left.

Just follow the direction of the bet, and the ball will be dragged in the same direction. So, for example, if we receive a side spin serve, we're going to be dealing with a short serve or a long serve, both of which can have side spins. So with that in mind, here's how to deal with it.

Returning Short Serves That Have Side Spin
In the short serve, also known as the low serve, we hit the short serve in front of the opponent's table, preventing them from taking an aggressive shot. When returning a short sidespin serve, you have many options.
We can return a short ball (touch), can launch the ball a considerable distance, can also use our wrist to attack the ball (flick).
To compensate for the altered spin on the ball, the angle of the bat and the motion of your shot must be somewhat different from a typical counter. You don't need to go too far under the ball if you use a pushback motion (long or short).

When approaching the ball with a flick, we may be more aggressive and move deeper into the ball. We don't need to lift or brush it too often. Remember to change your return location according to whether your opponent's serve has left or right sidespin.

For beginners this may seem like a lot of trouble at first, but with some practice and some skill in returning serves, you'll start to do it instinctively. Even experts claim that the automatic response to side-spin comes to us with time, practice and experience.

Returning Long Serves That Have Side Spin
The long serve bounces once off the side of the table, usually within six inches of the endline. The focus is on surprise and speed to push the opponent's ball into a weaker return, which the server may counter attack. When taking a long sidespin serve, you have two options. Topspin can be used to attack or backspin to direct the ball.
Reading and returning loops will take some time to perfect, but once we get the hang of it, we'll automatically make the appropriate changes. It all boils down to muscle memory. In theory, receiving a topspin serve will go up from your bet, while a sidespin serve will drift to the side. Trying to return multiple methods of each type of spin to learn how to modify our betting angle to keep our ball returns low and on the table. After that we will find the perfect angle and repeat it until it becomes second nature. Then, with practice we will improve our ability to recognize the power of sidespin shots and play more precise ball returns. For beginners like me who haven't mastered it, don't be discouraged. Even pro players make mistakes sometimes, especially when facing a new serve from a new opponent. In the end, practice is the key to being able to read and identify the ball spin your opponent has applied. Healthy spirit and greetings 🏓

How to do a super heavy fill chop in table tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

The backspin technique or what we usually call the chop in table tennis looks easy to do and indeed almost every player is capable of doing it. But to produce good quality backspin/chop shots, a player needs regular and continuous practice.

Chop is synonymous with stuffed balls, right?
Players who can chop techniques by producing full and heavy balls can be categorized as having good chop quality. However, if it is done monotonously, it will certainly make it easier for your opponent to return it.
Can the chop produce an empty ball? The answer is, of course you can.

Chop strokes to produce an empty or filled ball, the difference lies only in the point of imposition of the ball on the cross section of the bat and or the frictional force of the bat against the ball itself. If a player can combine empty chops and filled chops in a match, opposing players must be more careful in reading the ball's spin.

A spinner, of course, will be happy with the filled chop balls, they just have to hit them with strong friction.
However, in contrast to smash players/shooters, they have to outsmart a strategy to smash full and flat balls, including by opening the racket more when hitting. If the arrival of the ball is empty, this player can dominate the match rampant.

To make a heavy chop/backspin shot, we have to rub more against the bat at the bottom of the ball, and have a high bat speed when it comes into contact with the ball. The imposition of the ball is located at the point of the front section of the bet, so that the ball can roll across the surface of the cross section of the bet and produce good quality backspin.

If the ball's imposition point is on the back of the bat section, then it is certain that it will produce an empty ball, because there is no cross section for the ball to roll.
Players who are already able to chop by placing the ball at these points, means that they are already able to make empty or filled chops. To master it, a player must continue to practice and explore it.

In addition to these techniques, to produce quality filled chop balls is also greatly influenced by the type of rubber we use. Usually rubber with a tacky/sticky character will produce more rotation when chopping.

Table Tennis provocations and analogies

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Many powerful and transformational ideas appear in the table tennis world, become a trend and then disappear. This is sometimes because most coaches never fully understand it in the first place.

The most recent example of this is “provocation”.
Almost all coaches use the word and they believe they planned it for their students. Unfortunately, very often, these so-called provocations turn into missed opportunities, time-wasting activities that really don't change the next plan in the least. Of course, the provocation in this case is positive.

The motivational whiplash from the coach to the players is a form of provocation. It's just how the coach packs the provocation so that the player is affected and becomes motivated to follow all the coach's directions.

Using the Ping Pong analogy, when we provoke our opponent, we hit the ball at them, then they hit it back at us in all directions. Now it's up to us to figure out what to do with the ball and how to hit it back to the opponent, and so on…
If we can view such provocation as an ongoing exchange of stimulus and response, ideas and actions, thoughts and questions, we will begin to understand how to use these concepts in our play. We can also free ourselves from thinking that a provocation must be a grand extravaganza to be planned.

What we often see, provocations are often carried out by players in a way that lacks fair play. With the hope that opposing players are provoked by our provocation so that their concentration in playing is disturbed and makes them frustrated.

It is enough to bring out all the technical abilities we have, if done with just a few mistakes it will make the opponent's mental falter. Filled empty chops, geol balls or curved spins and so on can provoke opponents.

In sports including table tennis, sportsmanship must be upheld, because the true victory is maintaining good friendships after the game ends.

Table Tennis and the Dangers of Fashion

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

Table tennis is no longer just a black and red affair. In an effort to inject more color and variety into the sport, the rubber used in official competitions no longer had to be black and red, or even round bat shapes.

Player costumes that are increasingly varied in color are more attractive and pleasing to the eye. In the past, the basic colors were red, yellow, green, blue, etc., now more colors and patterns are combined.

Other accessories also follow the existing trend. Player shoes and equipment are also increasingly varied in terms of color. Many bright colors are the choice of the players.
Other equipment such as headbands are no less enlivening the various colors.

Bernadette Szocs from Romania embodies her definition of “beautiful in pink” when she plays with the pink rubber on one side of her bat. With the appearance of a "sexy" costume and a pink rubber band on one side, it looks very attractive and charming for male audiences, especially.
Her favorite color is the reason why she wears pink rubber.

The world number 23 table tennis player was very happy and enjoyed playing with the pink rubber.
So what effect does this have on the game itself?
Of course this will increase self-confidence. With very good playing techniques and supported by high self-confidence, it will affect the game psychologically.
For others, of course this phenomenon will help foster interest in table tennis.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) approves the use of blue, green, pink and purple on one side of the bet/blade, while the other side remains black so that opposing players can still identify spots or anti-spin elements.

Players in Indonesia have also been infected with the fashion virus and have joined in with this trend. A good sign, because table tennis is not a monotonous game, but always up to date with the times and world fashion. Fashionable players can even attract the attention of sponsors to endorse their products.

Don't be shy about looking unique when playing, balanced with mature techniques will make the game more beautiful. For some people, it may look very strange, but I think it looks very good and cool.

The impact of thin sponge rubber (1.9 mm and below) on table tennis

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

After we discussed the character of rubber with a thick sponge in the previous article, in this article I will try to review the thin rubber in table tennis, because many players also use rubber with a thin sponge.

Thinner sponges provide more control and are generally much easier to use, especially for players who value control in play. This type of sponge (thin and/or soft) is usually the top choice for players who prefer a defensive play style or recreational players who need a little extra help from their rubber to control the ball.

The thinner sponge results in slower ball speed but more control. Great for defensive block and push play making it ideal for recreational players. In addition, thin sponge rubber also has an impact that can damage the rhythm and tempo of the game, so it will slightly distract the opponent's concentration.

Who should use the sponge/thin rubber?
If you're a player who prefers control and defensive play over flat attack, a thinner sponge (1.9mm or less) will likely suit your game. Also, if you are a recreational player who needs control, thin rubber is ideal for you.
But all this is not absolute. Defensive players may also use thick/maximum sponge rubber, the most important thing is how we can master the tools we use and get the feel.

Also read: https://kasmonomonex.blogspot.com/2023/01/karet-tenis-meja-spons-tebal-maximum.html?m=0

In the end I concluded that thick and thin sponges have their place and are suitable for different players both in terms of experience and playing style. While the thin rubber is perfect for the recreational or defensive player, looking for maximum control, the thick rubber will maximize speed and spin for offensive players looking to dominate their opponents. It should also be noted that the thickness of the sponge is not the only factor to consider when choosing rubber. The hardness of the sponge is another important factor that also plays a major role and must be considered in combination with thickness.
Keep up the enthusiasm and practice diligently to be able to master the tools to support playing maturity.

Thick Sponge Table Tennis Rubber (maximum)

By: Kasmono Monex, a fan of healthy living

How do we know which rubber is suitable for use according to our playing style? As we all know, when buying table tennis rubber, we are usually faced with various thicknesses of sponge to choose from. The "thickness" of the sponge of the rubber sheet has a significant impact on how your bet will work and feel once the rubber is set.

Why is thickness important?

Before we get into the specifics of thick sponges, it's first important to understand why sponge thickness really has an impact on gameplay.

When it comes into contact with the ball, the sponge under the top sheet of rubber is compressed. The ball sinks into the rubber and is essentially knocked out as a result. Therefore, varying degrees of thickness affect how the ball is affected by the rubber and thus the three main factors of table tennis performance, namely speed, spin and control.

Other factors such as the hardness of the sponge also play an important role, but in this article, I will focus on thickness only.

Thick sponge impact (2.0 mm or more)

Thicker sponges are more suitable for aggressive players who want maximum speed when ball contact occurs. When making contact, the ball spends less time on the bat than if the bat had a thinner sponge. The result is faster ball speed but less control.

Not recommended for beginners, as it feels heavier overall and requires a difficult level of control from the player.

This type of rubber produces as much speed and spin as possible and does not require too much additional control assistance from our bat.

I myself am currently using this type of rubber. For ForHand I use Tenergy 05 Hard, while BackHand uses Tenergy 05.

The use of rubber is not absolute for me, because sometimes I rotate it. Sometimes on ForHand I install Tenergy 05, BackHand Donic S1. The point remains thick or maximum rubber.

Not because of experienced reasons or not, but rather because I like the character of the fast ball speed. Taking advantage of the opponent's reflexes that aren't good with fast balls, that's one of the reasons. Ha ha ha...

Basically the rubber/bet is only a supporting tool, the most important thing is to continue to improve the ability to play good technique.

Don't be tired of practicing, master the tools of our choice to support playing performance and don't be a confused player in deciding to choose the tools we use. Because using tools or thick, thin, anti-sponge or speckled rubber is just an option, it's up to each player.
